Sheriff: Medical emergency caused overturned vehicle in West New York

A medical emergency, potentially a heart attack, caused an elderly man to flip his vehicle on River Road in West New York, shutting down the thoroughfare during the evening rush hour on Monday, according to Hudson County Sheriff Frank Schillari. West New York crash

“At approximately 4:30 p.m., on Monday June 26th, a 2015 Lincoln MKC traveling north on Port Imperial Boulevard, driven by Mr. Paul Albanese, 69, of Edgewater, left the roadway prior to striking a chain link fence and a tree,” Schillari said in a statement.

Albanese was transported to the Hoboken Medical Center and is listed in critical condition. It is believed that Mr. Albanese might have suffered a heart attack prior to the crash, but this incident remains under investigation, authorities said.

As a result of the crash, Albanese suffered broken ribs. No other injuries were reported as a result of this crash, officials.

The investigation which is being conducted by both Hudson County Sheriff’s Office and the West New York Police Department, added Schillari.
