Yesterday morning, at approximately 7:00 a.m., a 28-foot U.S. Postal Service tractor trailer traveling southbound on New York Avenue by a 67-year-old Secaucus man struck a pedestrian at the intersection of 30th Street and New York Ave in Union City, Schillari said in a statement issued moments ago.

“The victim, Enrique Castro, 80, of Passaic, was transported by Union City and Jersey City EMS to the Jersey City Medical Center-Barnabas Health where he remains unconscious and in critical condition,” the sheriff also stated.

He added that the crash is still under investigation and no summonses or charges have been issued as of this time.
