“These candidates are renters, teachers, veterans, and community members who are speaking out for change,” Run for Something Co-Founder and President Amanda Litman said in a statement.
“They’re running because they’ve lived the struggles their communities are facing, and they know those experiences equip them to do something about it. We’re proud to endorse this new slate of next-generation leaders, and are excited to help send them to office.”
Run for Something has endorsed over 60 candidates across 29 states in its efforts to elect a new generation of progressives for local office, Litman added.
“Run for Something knows: if you want real change from your local government, you have to fight for it,” noted Guirgis.
“That’s why I’m proud to earn their endorsement. They understand that we won’t get real affordable housing, universal free community college, or a truly proactive county government unless we elect leadership with political imagination. That’s what I’m running to deliver, and it’s what my neighbors across District 4 deserve.”
Guirgis, a former aide to then-Jersey City Ward E Councilman James Solomon, also has the backing of the North New Jersey Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), Ward B Councilman Joel Brooks, Ward D Councilman Jake Ephros, and Ward E Councilwoman Eleana Little.
He is looking to unseat Commissioner Yraida Aponte-Lipski in the June 2nd Democratic primary, with former Ward D council candidate Patrick Ambrossi also potentially hopping into the race.
