According to a report from Mile Square View, the Hoboken Housing Authority Board of Commissioners have scheduled a Special Board Meeting to terminate the contract of Executive Director Carmelo Garcia.

The report, based off a public notice from the Hoboken City Clerk’s Office, includes resolutions “terminating the contract of Executive Director Carmelo Garcia” and “appointing acting Executive Director.”

The special meeting would be the second of its kind in the past month for the Hoboken Housing Authority Board of Commissioners. On July 2nd, 2014, the board tabled a resolution to expand the scope of a special counsel in a similar meeting.

If the resolution to terminate Garcia’s contract does get voted on, it is likely to pass on the support of commissioners aligned with Mayor Dawn Zimmer, who make up a majority of the board.

Garcia, who also serves as an Assemblyman representing Hoboken, Jersey City, and Union City, earned a salary of $163,649 as executive director in 2013, according to public records.

Garcia did not immediately return calls for comment from Hudson County View and Chairwoman Dana Wefer declined to comment on this story.

The meeting will be held on Monday, August 4th, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. in Council Chambers, City Hall, 94 Washington Street, Hoboken, New Jersey.

  1. Actually a minor addition to your news story. All the current commissioners have been voted and approved by the Hoboken City Council, many unanimously. Two of the current commissioners however are not likely to vote against Garcia who also doubles as their landlord within the HHA.

No amount of evidence is likely to change those two votes.

  2. Really Roman?? AKA Horsey…or better known as horse manure!! Somehow this guy thinks he’s a reporter, yet he has no credentials and all he does is run a blog that support his Zimmer-poo….Once again Zimmer will make another huge IILEGAL mistake via Dana Wefer!! And the HHA board is only unanimous because the majority of that board was Hand picked by Dawn Zimmer ,her hubby Stan and her City Council puppets….the other 2 HHA board members are residents but have always supported Carmelo. Carmelo stay strong and let the Zimmer “reformed” board continue to bury themselves…HUD is watching them….

  3. Cindy Goldberg, it is disgusting the degree of incompetence and manipulation under this administration. Appointing a board composed all of Zimmer aligned who know nothing of housing or the law upon which their asinine actions are in direct violation of. The operative is to bully, manipulate and when totally desperate scream anti-semitism.

  4. cindy and mel, seriously? where do you get your facts from? the funny pages? the HHA is run by HUD a federal agency…the city of hoboken has nothing to do with what goes on at the HHA…clearly mr. garcia has acted unprofessionally and has not done his job very well. when that happens, most people lose their jobs, it is that simple

  5. Wrong Fake Mel. It’s Beth Mason the “convert for marriage” who cries anti semitism. Nobody else. Beth Mason who pays people to exploit fake jewish surnames. The same Richard Mason funded operation that has lead to ELEC’s biggest violations

  6. Did Johnny not do his homework and listen or read about the claims of anti-Semitism for simply remarking that Zimmer appointees have a predominance of Jewish names?
