Prosecutor: Jersey City man charged with murder for fatal Clinton Ave shooting

Justin Garcia, age 25, of Jersey City, was arrested yesterday in connection with a July 21 fatal shooting on Clinton Avenue in Jersey City, Suarez said in a statement.

Garcia has been charged with murder, unlawful Possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose and certain persons not to possess a firearm, officials said. His Bail has been set at $750,000, cash only.

On July 21 at approximately 2:45 a.m., Jersey City police were dispatched to Clinton Avenue in Jersey City on a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, police found a male victim, Javon Murray, 28, of Jersey City, with a single gunshot wound to his upper body, authorities said.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 2:50 a.m., police said.

Officials added that the manner of death in the fatal shooting was later determined by a medical examiner to be homicide and the cause of death was ruled a gunshot wound to the victim’s neck.
