Prosecutor: Jersey City high school student fatally shot outside apartment

An 18-year-old Jersey City man, a student at Lincoln High School, was fatally shot right outside his family’s apartment last night, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced.

Yesterday at around 9:35 p.m., Jersey City police, responded to a report of
possible gunshots in the area of Rose Avenue, Suarez said in a statement.

Upon arrival to the home, responding officers found a male victim inside the home with multiple gunshot wounds to his torso, authorities said.

The victim, later identified Angel Cruz, 18, of Jersey City, was transported to the Jersey City Medical Center by Emergency Medical Services where he was treated for his injuries. He was pronounced dead at 3:20 a.m. this morning, officials said.

The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office has determined the cause of death to be gunshot wounds to his torso and extremities and the manner of death to be homicide, police said.

No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting.

The Prosecutor’s Homicide Unit is actively investigating the case with assistance from the Jersey City Police Department.
