Pro- and anti-ICE protestors clashed at the Delaney Hall federal detention center in Newark today as they took firm stances on the treatment of the detainees inside the facility who have spoken out alleging deplorable conditions.

Doremus Avenue, where it’s located, was closed for about a half mile with police from Bloomfield and Newark blocking most traffic as protestors were in the middle of the street.
“No ICE! No Fear! Immigrants are welcome here!” the anti-ICE protesters said.
They beat their drums and chanted loudly as the MAGA group assembled on the other side of the road.
“We are here today to show the world that we will not be intimidated by thugs who are trying to disperse law and order. We are not going to allow terror to reign!” exclaimed America First Republican of New Jersey Chair Mike Crispi.
“They are trying to move the goal posts through fear and intimidation! We stand with them [law enforcement] proudly … They have allies across New Jersey.”
“History will judge you!” an anti-ICE protestor yelled.
F**k you Nazis! … Stupid a** b*****!” another yelled out.
A pro-Trump activist tried to stop the bullhorn-happy protester first by putting flags in front of the siren before they got face to face and a screaming match ensued.
“Show your face!” another pro-ICE protested yelled at an anti-ICE protestor wearing a mask in case tear gas or pepper spray was deployed. A crowd of both protestors and press surrounded them before after the MAGA presser concluded.
The two sides then cursed and made fun of each other at length while tensions remained high. Ultimately, a motorcycle squad dispersed the crowed.
Not leaving anything to chance, Newark police officers worked with ICE to erect barriers down the street in front of Delaney Hall, and then another barrier between both sides to keep the peace.
A column of about 20 Newark SWAT troops marched down on the anti-ICE protest side in a show of great intimidation. Ultimately, they stopped and turned around to jeers and criticism and marched back and stood in front of Delaney Hall.
The barrier kept them separated while screaming insults continued. The MAGA contingent held their own rally while the anti-ICE protestors chanted and yelled.
“Shut this fascist system down!” one attendee yelled.
“Newark is MAGA country!” another shouted.
At one point, New Jersey State Police marched down a column and then crossed on the Delaney Hall side. They crossed to the other side and ultimately replaced the Newark SWAT team.
Later, state police left and were replaced by Newark police officers guarding Delaney Hall, monitoring the crowd, and preventing ICE from intervening.
“Free them all! Shut down Delaney Hall!” one group of protestors chanted.
Hoboken Republican Committee Vice Chair Rachel Castillo explained why she came out to support ICE on Saturday.
” … There’s due process, you have to come into this country legally. That’s all we’re asking. We’re not saying no immigrants can come in here. All of our families are,” she said during a media scrum, acknowledging political tensions are as high as she’s ever seen them.
A group of Proud Boys came through the anti-ICE side in the late afternoon, with about eight people marching to the other side to join the MAGA crowd without significant incident.
Meanwhile, anti-ICE protesters had encamped on the other side of the road with a range of food, drinks, and other donations to prepare.
They had tents, tables full of water and snacks, and a medical team ready to assist people in the event of ICE aggression, they said. Further, goggles were passed out along with N9-5 masks in case of tear gas and/or pepper spray being deployed.
Cosecha NewJersey, the Latino Action Network, and ICE out of NJ were some of groups coordinating the anti-ICE effort, with Jersey City Ward B Councilman Joel Brooks among the protesters.
Several members of New Jersey congressional delegation have been a consistent presence at Delaney Hall, including U.S. Reps. Rob Menendez (D-8) and LaMonica McIver (D-10), who represent parts of Hudson County, though they were not present Saturday afternoon.
“Republicans are trying to make an issue out of what’s happening outside Delaney because they don’t want to acknowledge what’s happening inside,” Menendez wrote on X yesterday.
“The more visibility the public gets into these privately run, for-profit detention centers, whatever is left of Trump’s remaining support will erode.”
Gov. Mikie Sherrill (D) explained why barriers were erected outside the Newark detention center today.
“Today and going forward, I urge everyone who is protesting to do so peacefully in the safe areas and work together to bring the temperature down. We need to focus on advocating for better conditions for the detainees, for their families, and ultimately, for the closure of Delaney Hall,” she said in a statement.
Sherrill announced yesterday that state police would be overseeing the protest area, not ICE, in an effort to keep demonstrations peaceful.

Their corporate media kept insisting this is about “hunger strikers” who reportedly hoarded Snickers and Doritos this week inside Delaney Hall commissary while refusing to discuss the violence by their comrades for days on end. When questioned directly about the violence this week, Rob Menendez refused to say a word about it. The Democrat game plan.
The public saw the violence and is appalled by the “protestors” massive felonies: illicit obstruction and assaults on officers blew back on Rebecca Sherrill, Andy Kim, Rob Menendez and Cory Booker among many other NJ and national Democrat pols’ faces. The fabrications have evaporated with many independent journalists filming at the scene.
Finally, there’s NJ riot police and State Troopers being permitted to cork the highly organized Leftist violence back in the bottle. Too late. Last night more violence. Soon it will be dark again and they are preparing. Gov. Sherrill embraced the genie out of the bottle and it’s a Leftist demon.

The Party of low-information voters ( the current Republican Party which has ceded its authority to the MAGA Cult) would do well – to those few capable of doing so – to look at history to see how we got here. Nativism and anti immigrant sentiment is not new in this country.
