Police: Propane tank leads to siblings getting busted for weed in Jersey City

A brother-sister duo was arrested in Jersey City yesterday afternoon after police pulled them over for trying to transport a propane tank through the Holland Tunnel, discovering they were in possession of marijuana and related paraphernalia, officials said.

Bradley Berti, 25, of Hemphill, Texas was charged with unlawful possession of weapon, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving with a suspended license and bail Jumping, since he had two active warrants out of Hopatcong Borough, N.J., according to Port Authority spokesman Joe Pentangelo.

Meanwhile, his sister, Christie Berti, 31, of Fort Meyers, Florida, was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance (Clonazepam), possession of a controlled dangerous substance (marijuana) and possession of drug paraphernalia, authorities said.

At about 3:15 p.m. yesterday, a Port Authority police officer was conducting a commercial vehicle check near the Holland Tunnel when he observed a 2010 Chevrolet pick- up truck hauling a trailer at the toll plaza, police said.

The vehicle was carrying a propane tank, which is prohibited in the Holland Tunnel, so the officer pulled the vehicle over. When the officer informed the driver, who had his windows opened, to use an alternate route, he noticed strong smell of marijuana inside his vehicle, officials said.

Furthermore, the officer observed marijuana residue on top of the center console of the vehicle n plain view, leading to two bags of marijuana (under 50 grams), glass smoke pipes, Clonazepam and syringes being recovered, authorities said.
