Rodney Collins, 28, of Orange, was charged with driving while intoxicated, eluding, disorderly conduct, unlawful taking by means of conveyance (rental car) and two counts of bail jumping, according to Port Authority police spokesman Joe Pentangelo.

At 2:28 a.m. this morning, Port Authority Police Officer Joshua Olivieri was on patrol near the Holland Tunnel in a marked PAPD vehicle when he saw the suspect driving a 2016 black Nissan Altima the wrong way on 13th Street, authorities said.

He then saw Collins pass by, failing to stop at a stop sign on Cole Street. Olivieri attempted to pull the suspect over, but he ignored the officer’s instructions and sped off, officials said.

The officer followed the Altima, which eventually crashed into a concrete barrier, near Hoboken Road and Route 139, and was disabled, police said.

Olivieri placed the suspect under arrest after it was determined the suspect’s blood alcohol level was .20. Additionally, it was determined the suspect had an active criminal warrant out of Newark, authorities said.

Further investigation determined the vehicle was rented in a name that was different than the suspect’s, officials said.

  1. I HATE driving daily through bridges, tunnels, tollbooths… I have nightmares of EZ-passes swarming around my head. But it’s stories like this that keep me hangin’ on! Rodney and people like him who know how to have fun and turn a dull drive into an amusement park. I just hope some day I get to see something like it myself. Wait… why SEE the story when you can BE the… “Say no more!” “Oh no, I won’t. heh heh heh!” *Grandpa voice* “That Darvis has something mischievous in mind, I just KNOW it!”
