Manuel Bermudez, 46, of Jersey City, was charged with shoplifting, according to Police Det. Sgt. Edgardo Cruz.

While at the Acme store located at 614 Clinton St., an employee approached Hoboken Police Officer Orlando Moctezuma and told him someone was placing store items into a backpack and was now attempting to leave, officials said.

Bermudez placed his bag on the floor as he was stopped by the police officer, where the contents of the bag began to spill out, authorities said.

The only items in the bag were 10 cans of Axe body spray, valued at $5.50 each. Bermudez was placed under arrest, processed and issued a summons for a court appearance, police said.
