The teen, 17, of Jersey City, was charged with burglary and hindering apprehension on Friday, February 3 around 12:42 a.m., according to Police Capt. Janine Foy.

The teen was seen entering a parked Nissan Altima in the rear parking lot of 1225 John F. Kennedy Boulevard trying to steal items from inside the vehicle, officials said.

The owner of the car relayed a description of the teen and two other individuals to authorities, though the other two fled before police arrived.

Another parked car appeared to have been tampered with but the owner could not be reached by officials as the report was being prepared, police said.

The juvenile, who was detained in the area of Avenue B between 55th and 56th Streets, provided a false name to authorities and the other two actors are unknown at this time, officials said.
