Ariel Paulino, 20, of Jersey City, was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a controlled dangerous substance, according to Port Authority police spokesman Joe Pentangelo.

At about 4:40 p.m. yesterday, the suspect was seen driving a 2003 Volvo north bound at the George Washington Bridge Toll plaza, officials said.

A Port Authority Police officer at the location noticed that the Volvo’s windshield was cracked. The officer pulled Paulino over and when speaking to the driver, the officer noted a smell of marijuana, authorities said.

Under the passenger seat of the Volvo was a loaded .45 caliber semi-automatic pistol and a small bag containing suspected heroin was found. As a result, the car was impounded and Paulino was placed under arrest, police said.
