John Woodley, 25, of Jersey City, was charged with theft of service, toll evasion and disobeying traffic signs, according to Port Authority police spokesman Joe Pentangelo.

At approximately 12:30 p.m. yesterday, Port Authority police at the George Washington bridge lower toll plaza saw a blue GMC Yukon pass through an EZPass only lane, authorities said.

A sign indicated that the toll had not been paid so police pulled the suspect over. The driver could not produce an EZ Pass and a records check indicated that the suspect had 54 open EZPass violations and was over $3,490 in unpaid tolls, officials said.

Woodley was then arrested and is due back in Bergen County Superior Court on May 26, police said.

  1. Hmmm let’s do some math… I make enough to afford 540 EZ-Pass violations a year… whoa! Five Hundred and Forty!! I’m gonna zoom through the toll booths on my birthday, Christmas, and Thanksgiving! This is the kind of reporting that could help me. Thank you John Woodley and thank you EZ-Pass.
