Diego Castellanos, 49, of Hoboken, was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, according to Police Det. Sgt. Edgardo Cruz.

Saturday around 3:59 p.m., police were dispatched to the Big Banner Supermarket, located at 401 Jackson St., on a report that a man was in possession of a handgun, authorities said.

Several witnesses noticed the defendant, grabbed him and removed the weapon until police arrived, officials said.

Police determined that the weapon was actually a BB gun and that Castellanos did not try to use it on anyone.

Castellanos was arrested and remanded to the Hudson County jail, authorities said.
