Police: Bayonne teen caught breaking into cars while wearing ski mask

A Bayonne teenager was caught breaking into cars while wearing a ski mask early yesterday morning, with police recovering credit cards, cash and insurance cards.

A 17-year-old male juvenile was taken into custody at around 1:41 a.m. yesterday in the area of 55th Street and Avenue B, according to Police Capt. Eric Amato.

Authorities pursued him after an anonymous caller reported witnessing the juvenile wearing a ski mask, checking door handles of parked motor vehicles then ultimately entering an unlocked vehicle.

As officers arrived, they observed the teen attempting to conceal himself inside the vehicle. After the juvenile was unable to justify being inside the vehicle, he was taken into custody, officials said.

During a search incident to custody, officers recovered numerous personal items of various
victims on the juvenile’s person, including but not limited to, loose change, cash, health insurance cards, department store membership cards, various electronic accessories and bank cards, police said.
