Brian Schmittler, 38, of Bayonne, was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and failure to wear a seat belt on Thursday after he crashed his red Toyota 4×4 into a black Hyundai Sonata that was waiting to make a left turn onto 45th Street from Boulevard East, according to Police Lt. Janine Foy.

Witnesses told police that Schmittler was traveling full speed when the accident occurred, causing heavy front-end damage for the Toyota and heavy rear-end damage for the Sonata, officials said.

As a result of the crash, Schmittler was rendered unconscious and transported to the Jersey City Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries, while 46-year-old victim was transported to the Bayonne Medical Center, authorities said.

Furthermore, both vehicles had to be towed from the scene due to the extent of the damage caused, police said.

That’s not fair. Should’ve sent the drunk to BMC to stick him with the huge bill!
