The fatal incident occurred around 1 p.m. yesterday at a construction site on 54th Street in West New York, where the deceased, Antonio Desouza, 64, of Jersey City, sustained severe head trauma, according to Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office spokesman Ray Worrall.

He added that while his death does not appear to be suspicious at this time, an investigation is ongoing.

Sources, who spoke under the condition of anonymity since they were not authorized to speak on the matter, said Desouza died from falling off a ladder.

Additionally, OSHA is investigating the incident and spokeswoman Joanna Hawkins said that Desouza’s company, TNT Construction & Restoration, LLC, had no prior OSHA inspection history.

According to federal guidelines, OSHA has up to six months to complete their investigation.
