North Bergen police seeking man who used fraudulent $26k check to buy BMW

The North Bergen Police Department is seeking the public’s help in finding a man who wrote a fraudulent check for nearly $26,000 to purchase a BMW from a township car dealership.

Wilfredo Montanez, Jr., 34, of Union City, is wanted for theft by deception after writing a fraudulent check, which was certified, for $25,780 to purchase a black BMW X5, the police department posted on their Facebook page on Friday.

The vehicle has yet to be recovered and Montanez’s whereabouts are currently unknown, police said.
