North Bergen High School senior Ana Ordonez won the London International Youth Science Forum Award at the 2026 Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in Phoenix, Arizona earlier this month.

“Hearing Ana’s name called at the Special Awards Ceremony was an unforgettable moment for our high school,” North Bergen High School STEM Research Teacher Dr. Krista Welz said in a statement.
“She put so much heart and genuine effort into her research. Earning a spot at the forum in London is exactly the kind of amazing opportunity she deserves.”
Regeneron ISEF is the largest and most highly competitive pre-college STEM competition in the world. Ordonez was one of about 1,400 students who traveled from across the globe to present their independent research.
Out of all the projects presented, only about 300 students took home an award.
The district previously explained that Ordonez developed a standardized tactile prescription labeling system with universal disease icons and raised dosage indicators.
Her research found the system reduced medication errors and improved compliance compared to text-based labels.
“Ana is one of only three individuals across all of ISEF to receive this award. We are incredibly proud of her,” added North Bergen High School Director of Science Dr. Jared Keshishian.
“Her achievement reflects the level of work taking place here and shows that North Bergen can compete on a global stage. Ana will be remembered as a trailblazer for years to come.”
As part of her accomplishment, Ordonez will be traveling to the United Kingdom this summer to attend the LIYSF from July 19th to August 1st, which will be completely all-expenses-paid, along with a $1,500 stipend.
While in London, she will have the chance to attend lectures by leading scientists, visit world-class research laboratories, and connect with other young researchers from over 50 different countries.
“Ana’s achievement is an extraordinary source of pride for the entire North Bergen community,” expressed North Bergen Superintendent of Schools Dr. George Solter.
“To be recognized among the world’s top young scientists is a remarkable accomplishment and reflects her dedication, talent, and passion for STEM. We are excited to see her represent North Bergen on an international stage this summer in London.”
