“I respectfully report that my recommendation for the 2014 Officer of the Year is Roberto Maldonado,” said Dowd, reading a January 5 memo sent to Capt. Patrick Irwin.

“As you’re aware, Det. Maldonado is a 19-year veteran for the police department. He’s currently assigned as a detective to the major case unit.”

Dowd went on to explain just a few examples of Maldonado’s fine police work.

“Everything he’s done, believe me, stopping the person who was robbing people at gun point, was so very critical,” commended Sacco.
