Mussab Ali, a McNair Academic High School graduate, will again be seeking a seat on the Jersey City Board of Education in the November 7th election.

Ali is running for the one-year term on the BOE and said in a statement his campaign will center around safety, diversity, and providing a more effective education in our schools.
“Our children need safe spaces that allow them the flexibility to build positive relationships and learn. I will work to establish those safe places,†said Ali.
“Our city has long touted its diversity, but ESL parents are regularly left out of the loop at schools. I will work to create a more inclusive environment for immigrant families. We live in a digital age, but many children in our school system have yet to take courses in computer science. I will work to provide a more effective 21st century education.â€
Ali is also a lifelong resident of Jersey City who went through the Jersey City Public School system.
During the 2016 campaign for Jersey City BOE, Ali’s opponents combined to spend over $1,000,000.
Although he spent less than $4,000, Ali still managed to garner over 7,000 votes for his first time on the ballot.
While he came up short, Ali believes his campaign raised awareness for the student perspectives in education and effects of crime on education.
More recently, Ali was appointed to the Immigration Affairs Commission and elected as vice chair by his peers and is also the Secretary of the Hudson County Young Democrats.
Furthermore, Ali was recently awarded the Harry S. Truman Scholarship and and was also selected as an Eagleton Undergraduate Associate Class of 2018 — the only member selected from his campus.
“I have had the opportunity to get to know Ali over the last year and am impressed with his intelligence, compassion and enthusiasm. I support him and know that his youthful voice will be a welcome addition to the board,” chimed in veteran Jersey City Freeholder Bill O’Dea (D-2).

A 21-year-old student-activist who is the first student to ever receive the Truman Scholarship from Rutgers – Newark, and a student leader who is the President of the MSA, Mussab is qualified to run for BOE.
