“I am happy to continue to lead the group. While it’s a large group … everyone for the most part wants to better their part of the city,” she told HCV.
“I love how different the wards can be and the diversity of the membership. I’m happy. We added virtual meetings which will allow for more participation.”
First elected to lead the JCDO in 2017, McCann Stamato lost a close race to her former running mate, Assemblyman Will Sampson, and Hudson County Commissioner Jerry Walker (D-3) in the June 10th Democratic primary.
McCann Stamato ran with Bayonne 2nd Ward Councilwoman Jackie Weimmer on Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop’s “Democrats for Change” gubernatorial slate, while Sampson and Walker were backed by the Hudson County Democratic Organization (HCDO).
Despite that, HCDO Chair Craig Guy, also the county executive, endorsed her for another term in a letter to all 380 Jersey City Democratic committee members issued last night.
“As Chair of the Hudson County Democratic Organization, I’m proud to express my full support for Barbara McCann Stamato and her team as they continue to lead the JCDC with integrity and purpose,” he wrote.
“Now more than ever, unity is essential. As we look ahead to November, let’s come together stronger and more focused than ever to support our Democratic nominee for Governor, Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill. Let’s get to work – together.”
