Mayor Steven Fulop and members of his administration hosted a community meeting at the Bethune Center to inform Jersey City residents about their plans to build a $20 million MLK City Hall Annex in the Hub shopping center.

The plan, which Mayor Fulop touted as having “no downside,” was met with stiff resistance from former Jersey City Councilwoman Viola Richardson, who claimed the city had destroyed the hub with the placement of too many government programs there.

Mayor Fulop’s Chief of Staff, Muhammed Akil, responded to criticism about the lack of commercial business, while explaining how government entities and welfare programs is a positive for the Hub.
