Dear Editor,

Grace and peace to you.

As spiritual leaders, we witness daily the hopes, struggles, and needs of our congregations. Our responsibility is not to point to a person, but to point to principles, principles that create a stronger, fairer, and more compassionate Jersey City.

We, the undersigned pastors and faith leaders of Jersey City, write to you with a unified voice as our city approaches an important moment in its future.

While this letter does not endorse, promote, or oppose any political candidate, it reflects the values and priorities we believe any future mayor must uphold to ensure justice, dignity, and opportunity for all who call Jersey City home.

A Mayor Who Stands for Justice

Leadership must be rooted in fairness, accountability, and equitable treatment. We seek a mayor who will champion justice for every resident, ensuring that the voices of the marginalized are heard and respected.

A Mayor Who Protects and Honors Immigrant Communities

Jersey City has always been a home for immigrant families who come seeking safety, opportunity, and belonging.

We believe our next mayor must safeguard the dignity of these communities and support policies that offer protection, resources, and respect to all who contribute to the fabric of our city.

A Mayor Who Prioritizes Affordable Housing

Housing is a moral issue as much as an economic one. We stand for leadership committed to:

• Expanding truly affordable housing
• Preventing displacement of long-term residents
• Ensuring fair housing protections
• Promoting ethical and community-centered development
• Residents should not be priced out of the city they helped build.

A Mayor Who Will Reform Zoning and Development Practices

Zoning laws shape the future of our neighborhoods. We advocate for reform that eliminates inequitable policies, increases transparency, and supports development that benefits the people, not just developers.

Our city deserves systems that uplift communities instead of dividing them.

A Mayor Who Strengthens Community Life and Positivity
The well-being of Jersey City depends on more than buildings and budgets. We need leadership committed to:

•Youth empowerment and safe spaces
• Support for seniors and families
• Mental health and wellness resources
• Violence prevention and community safety
•Genuine partnerships with community and faith-based organizations
• A thriving city is built on unity, compassion, and opportunity.

As clergy, our role is not to instruct residents on who to vote for, but to encourage them to vote for values that reflect justice, compassion, and the common good. We remain committed to praying for the peace, prosperity, and future of Jersey City as together we work toward a stronger and more hopeful tomorrow.

Respectfully submitted,
