Law enforcement, community unite at Liberty State Park in ‘A Walk to Remember’

It was “A Walk to Remember,” as over a thousand people walked through Liberty State Park in honor of the 118 police officers killed in the line of duty last year across America – with proceeds going to a college fund for deceased Jersey City Detective Melvin Santiago’s younger brother.

Among those in attendance was Ronnie Gonzalez Ramos, the cousin of slain NYPD officer Rafael Ramos, who was honored by New Jersey Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno. Ramos told Hudson County View that the family is still mourning and that he was there to show “support for officers that are still alive.”

Guadagno echoed Ramos’ sentiment and spoke about her concern for the families of those who serve in law enforcement. Hoboken Freeholder Anthony Romano, with roots in law enforcement, spoke about the show of unity at the event.
