“We lost a colleague and a good friend today. Councilman Giordano was a kind, smart and caring person who loved his community and family,” Santos wrote on his Facebook page yesterday.

“I will miss his support, guidance and friendship. My deepest condolences to his wife Ivy, son Enzo and mom Pat. Rest In Peace, Jon.”

Giordano, the most recent owner of West Hudson Lumber and Millwork, as well as the president of Josam Realty, was sworn into the town council two years ago, according to the town website.

A lifelong Kearny resident who graduated from the local high school, Giordano was also a former president of the Kearny Board of Education and planning board member, as well as a Democratic committeeman.

His cause of death was not immediately available.
