Jersey City Council President Joyce Watterman is endorsing Jim McGreevey for mayor, citing his work with reentry programs and prior public service.
“Jim McGreevey has spent his life lifting up those too often left behind. As mayor of Woodbridge, he rebuilt neighborhoods and balanced budgets with compassion,” Watterman said in a statement.
“As Governor, he expanded access to education and environmental protections. Through the New Jersey Reentry Corporation, he has provided over 25,000 men and women returning from prison with a genuine path to employment, healthcare, and dignity. Jim leads with his heart, and he understands that public service is about people, not power.”
Watterman, who was elected to city council-at-large three times as part of Mayor Steven Fulop’s ticket, finished in fifth place on Tuesday in a seven-person field with 2,490 votes.
Mussab Ali, who was the fourth place finisher with 11,876 votes, participated in Ward E Councilman James Solomon’s runoff campaign launch on Saturday, while Hudson County Commissioner Bill O’Dea (D-2), who finished third, endorsed Solomon earlier today, as HCV first reported.
Solomon, who was the top vote getter last week, also received endorsements from U.S. Senator Andy Kim (D-NJ) and Newark Mayor Ras Baraka over the weekend for the December 2nd runoff.
