The Union City police garage where the charity operation was situated was filled to the brim with volunteers eager to see Sherrill, who Stack and the Hudson County Democratic Organization (HCDO) supported.

“Si se pudo (yes we did!)” the crowd chanted.

“I have one thing to say, gracias(thank you)!” Sherrill exclaimed to applause.

“In November, I asked you for your vote. And wow, did you guys come out with a big vote here in Union City. Thank you! Thank you!” she declared to applause and cheers.

“Mikie! Mikie!” the crowd chanted.

“ … You guys had my back, and now I’m here to have your back to help you deliver turkeys to the community: And I can’t wait. It’ just not about you … It’s about the entire community,” she exclaimed.

“It’s about taking care of the community. It’s about looking out for your neighbor. It’s about looking out for everybody here in New Jersey. As our Governor, I’m going to fight hard for you so muchas, muchas gracias.”

Stack thanked Sherrill and the volunteers for their efforts as she made her way around the building, delivering turkeys with Assemblyman Gabriel Rodriguez and Assemblyman-elect Larry Wainstein (both D-33), among many others.

Speaking to HCV, Stack said he’s been doing the giveaway for 45 years to help those less fortunate, anticipating distributing around 30,000 turkeys prior to Thursday’s holiday.

“We started very small at the time. We started with chickens … I wanted to do something for my neighbors. There were a few buildings in the neighborhood that I thought needed help … Without all the volunteers we have, it wouldn’t be possible,” Stack added.

“Whoever calls for a turkey receives a turkey. We try our best while the supplies last. It doesn’t matter if you can vote. That has nothing to do with it. If you need a turkey in Union City, West New York, Weehawken, Guttenberg, Secaucus, and North Bergen.”

  1. “Infamous” implies something that’s legally or morally dubious. I don’t think that’s what the writer meant in describing a story about helping people have a turkey on Thanksgiving.
