“Captain Toro is an exemplary law enforcement officer committed to public service and criminal justice. Completing the FBI National Academy is a remarkable achievement and is reflective of Captain Toro’s professionalism and distinguished career,” Acting Hudson County Prosecutor Wayne Mello said in a statement.
“On behalf of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office, we congratulate Captain Toro and I am confident the experience he has gained will continue to help us better serve the residents of Hudson County.”
Toro, also commander of the HCPO Special Victims Unit, graduated from the program at a ceremony in Quantico, Virginia on Thursday, September 4th.
The program included training in advanced communication, leadership, and physical fitness. To be accepted to the FBI National Academy, participants must be proven professionals within their respective departments.
A graduate of New Jersey City University (NJCU), Toro was hired by the HCPO in 2001 and earned his Master of Public Administration from Fairleigh Dickinson University.
In his tenure, he has been assigned to the homicide unit and has previously served as a commander with the Hudson County Rapid Deployment Force.
Additionally, Toro was joined at the FBI Academy by one other local law enforcement officer: Union City Police Capt. Walter Laurencio.
