“This pavilion is more than a structure; it’s a gathering place where families and neighbors can come together, celebrate, and create lasting memories. It reflects the shared commitment of my administration and the Board of County Commissioners to invest in our communities while expanding opportunities for minority-owned businesses,” Hudson County Executive Craig Guy said in a statement.

“I am especially proud that this project will be built by MDW Construction Service, a minority-owned contractor rooted right here in our community. This effort represents a meaningful investment in the neighborhood and a defining accomplishment for Commissioner Jerry Walker. I thank Commissioner Walker for his tireless advocacy and dedication to delivering a space that truly reflects and serves the residents of his district.”

Walker is the state assemblyman-elect in the 31st Legislative District, which includes Bayonne. and he will be sworn in this afternoon.

“From the start, I heard from so many residents in my district about the need for a community space in Mercer Park,” Walker declared.

“I advocated for this project because I know how important safe, welcoming spaces are for our families and seniors alike. This pavilion is a direct result of listening to constituents, pushing for resources, and making sure every voice in our community is heard.”

Mercer Park is a county park located in Bayonne located along the border of Jersey City, with an entrance near the intersection of Merritt Street and Avenue C.

“Parks are essential to the quality of life in Hudson County. By expanding Mercer Park with this pavilion, we are ensuring that all residents have a vibrant, accessible space to connect, play, and enjoy the outdoors,” added Board of Commissioners Chair Anthony Romano (D-5).

The park spans six-and-a-half acres of walkways winding through greenery and shady resting areas among massive trees.

The open space also features two basketball courts, a lighted dual-use field for youth baseball and football, and a children’s playground, making it a hub for recreation and community activities.

Jersey City Ward A Councilwoman Denise Ridley and Hudson County Register Jeff Dublin also attended the event.
