As prime time voting hours approach the horizon in Hoboken, where six Council seats are up for grabs today, Mayor Dawn Zimmer says her team will ensure city improvements such as the Washington Street redesign project.

“Polls close at 8! Please vote! If you want Washington street done we need your vote! Mike 1st, Tiffanie 2nd, Dana 4th, Peter 5th, Jen 6th!,” Zimmer tweeted about 30 minutes ago.

Zimmer met with U.S. Sens. Bob Menendez and Cory Booker (D-NJ), as well as U.S. Rep. Albio Sires (D-8) back in May to discuss how to improve Washington Street, a main thoroughfare in the Mile Square City that is currently rife with potholes.

Today, Zimmer is embroiled in a high stakes affair that will likely shape the climate of Hoboken for when she seeks re-election in 2017.

Zimmer endorsed Mike DeFusco, Tiffanie Fisher, Dana Wefer and incumbents Peter Cunningham and Jen Giattino in this election cycle and they are all engulfed in tooth and nail battles today.

Wefer and Cunningham will likely have to overcome significant vote handicaps, given that very few vote-by-mail ballots have been disqualified in the 4th and 5th Wards as of late this morning.

Surprisingly, things have been relatively drama-free in the streets of Hoboken up to this point, but that could easily change with a post-work rush to the polls from here on out.
