“I believe Jen Giattino, is best suited to lead Hoboken now as Mayor. I give her my enthusiastic, unqualified endorsement,” Cunningham said in a statement.

“I have had the fortunate opportunity to work with all the major mayoral candidates over the last several years, and while they all have their strengths, none is more ready, none is as ready to lead Hoboken. As a Ward leader myself, I recognize how passionately Jen serves both her 6th Ward constituents and residents throughout Hoboken.”

After Mayor Dawn Zimmer announced she wouldn’t be seeking a third term in June, also endorsing Councilman-at-Large Ravi Bhalla to succeed her, Cunningham and 2nd Ward Councilwoman Tiffanie Fisher both said they were open to Giattino running for mayor.

Fisher also recently formally endorsed Giattino.

Meanwhile, 3rd Ward Councilman Mike Russo threw his support behind Freeholder Anthony Romano (D-5), while 4th Ward Councilman Ruben Ramos backed 1st Ward Councilman Mike DeFusco.
