“Brian Stack controls all three branches of government, runs the corrupt Hudson County machine and even demands extra state funding for sanctuary cities — but when Secaucus is facing a 30% county tax increase, where is Senator Stack?” Hector said in a statement.

“We’re running to fight for taxpayers in Secaucus and all of Hudson County, and we will not allow this devastating county tax increase to happen — not over our dead bodies.”

The current proposed county budget increases Secaucus’ portion of the county tax levy from $20,452,622 last year to $26,661,059 this year, an increase of approximately 30.36% or over $6.2 million.

Divided among the approximately 15,000 residential taxpayers in Secaucus, that comes out to an average tax increase of over $400 at a time when costs continue to rise and many families are living with tight budgets, the candidates declared.

“This kind of waste and taxpayer abuse should never be tolerated, and it’s exactly why Tony Hector and I are running for State Assembly — to be a voice for taxpayers throughout the 33rd District,” Alonso added.

“We will not let the political machine abuse Secaucus taxpayers and will advocate for them with every ounce of strength we have.”

Hudson County Executive Craig Guy delivered his annual address on a $713,587,235.10 budget with a 5.59 percent tax hike during the board of commissioners caucus on May 6th, as HCV first reported.

County spokesman Mark Cygan said that Hector and Alonso are at best misinformed with how county budgeting works.

“The State of New Jersey determines how property taxes are allocated for all New Jersey municipalities,” he began.

“Even with no increase in county taxes, Secaucus taxes would have risen due to property sales in the Town of Secaucus. As candidates running for Assembly, they should be aware of this.”

Guy is also the Hudson County Democratic Organization (HCDO) chair and he and Stack are supporting Assemblyman Gabriel Rodriguez and Larry Wainstein in LD-33.
