The Hudson County Democratic Organization turned out strong at their annual fall gala to honor longtime former Jersey City Councilman Bill Gaughan, who currently serves as Hudson County Executive Tom DeGise’s chief of staff.

A house packed with the HCDO’s faithful came out in support of Gaughan.

At the podium, he said over the years he’s learned how important it is to listen and stated that public servants should “never turn a yes into a no.”

Gaughan also recalled some found memories about serving on the council with Steven Fulop, who is of course now the Jersey City mayor and a long-rumored Democratic gubernatorial candidate for 2017.

He recalled one particular stretch where he was uneasy over the fact he hadn’t heard from Fulop in quite a while.

Gaughan received an emphatic standing ovation as he received his plaque from Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto (D-32), who is also the chairman of the HCDO.

Prieto later explained why Gaughan was an obvious choice for this year’s honoree, as well as why none of the November 3 elections will be taken lightly.
