DeGise talks new courthouse, county jail as three more Hudson mayors endorse re-election

Hudson County Executive Tom DeGise hosted a news conference at Hudson Community College to announce new endorsements for his re-election bid.

Three North Hudson mayors – Weehawken Mayor Richard Turner, West New York Mayor Felix Roque and Guttenberg Mayor Gerald Drasheff – all spoke highly of the job DeGise has done as county executive, specifically highlighting the expansion of Hudson Community College.

DeGise answered questions from Hudson County View at the end of the conference, starting with the building of a new Hudson County Courthouse, and the county’s acquisition of property in the Journal Square area.

While offering a glowing vision of economic development that a new county courthouse would create, DeGise stopped short of making any guarantees.

In addition, DeGise answered questions about a two-year-old report done by the Detention Watch Network, centered on conditions within Hudson County Correction’s immigrant-detention center, and what actions DeGise had taken to reform the county jail since the release of the report.
