Eileen Gaughan, 42, was killed while trying to cross Route 34 in Wall Township last night and was struck by a car. NJ Advanced Media reported on the incident and friends of the family confirmed the woman in question was Eileen Gaughan.

She previously served as an assistant director of Hudson County’s Office of Cultural and Heritage Affairs/ Tourism, the chair of the Jersey City Municipal Utilities Authority and a council aide to her father towards the end of his tenure as a councilman in 2012 (h/t The Jersey Journal).

Bill Gaughan was the city’s Ward D councilman from 1993 until 2013 and had the “100 Steps” stairway, which connects the Jersey City Heights to Hoboken, named after him as a tribute to his service earlier this year.

He still serves as Hudson County Executive Tom DeGise’s chief of staff.

Hudson County View offers our condolences to the Gaughan family during this difficult time.
