“Jim McGreevey has always stood with our community. As governor, he partnered with faith leaders to advance justice, education, and opportunity,” DeCohen said in a statement.

“He introduced reentry programs, job training, and counseling to those returning home. Through his leadership at the New Jersey Reentry Corporation, he continues to provide individuals with a Second Chance to rebuild their lives.”

He also noted that his predecessor, Bishop Ralph E. Brower, was a good friend of McGreevey’s and endorsed him for governor, as well that he appreciates his commitment to early childhood literary for Black and brown children.

“Jim McGreevey’s life has been defined by service to the poor, the forgotten, and the hopeful. He understands that true safety and opportunity come from compassion, understanding, and shared responsibility. I trust his heart, his word, and his vision for a just and united Jersey City,” DeCohen added.

McGreevey finished in second place last Tuesday behind Ward E Councilman James Solomon and he also has the backing of Council President Joyce Watterman, another recent opponent.

“Bishop Brower was a giant of faith and a friend whose belief in redemption and service shaped Jersey City for generations. Bishop DeCohen carries that legacy forward with extraordinary grace and strength,” stated McGreevey.

I am grateful for his friendship and endorsement, and for the enduring witness of St. Michael’s Methodist Church, which continues to stand as a cornerstone of faith and hope in our city.”

He further that his administration will continue to prioritize early literacy, reentry and job training, affordable housing, and community-based public safety, providing every neighborhood with the tools to thrive.

The non-partisan elections in Jersey City are on December 2nd.
