“As many of you may know by now, a 5 year-old Bayonne child was killed this morning in a motor vehicle collision that occurred just past the 14A on-ramp near the Turnpike Extension Bridge,” Davis wrote on his Facebook page just before 7 p.m. this evening.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the family of the child who passed in this tragic accident. As a father of 3 boys my heart bleeds for the family of this child. May his innocent soul rest in enternal [sic] peace ‪#‎RIP‬.”

Multiple media reports earlier today said the crash involved five vehicles around 7:20 a.m. and at least five other passengers were transported to local hospitals.

According to ABC 7, the child sustained fatal injuries when a Chevy pick-up truck rear-ended a Saturn. Another child and an adult traveling in the Saturn received treatment at the Jersey City Medical Center – Barnabas Health.

No further information was immediately available.
