“The purpose of today is to actually provide demonstrations to the seniors and education and also to socialize,” stated McKnight.

There were over 32 vendors set up at the Mary McLeod Bethune Center on Friday, including CarePoint Health, Hudson Rehab Spa, the Social Security Administration, medical specialists and others that assist in senior living placements – and an event hosted by AngelaCARES, Inc.

Louis Fields of Foresters Financial, a sponsor of the health fair, felt that it’s important for seniors to get educated about their life insurance policies, final expenses and how they can possibly offer grants and scholarships to their grandchildren.

“Foresters believe in the community and giving out free information and helping the community grow,” he told Hudson County View.

Roberta Fluellen added that “there’s so many areas in which we can learn from, whether its blood pressure, or whether it’s just the fact of eating correctly and show what is needed for our bodies to sustain them and keep healthy.”

McKnight was excited for the event after receiving a proclamation from Jersey City Council and recognizing August 21st as National Senior Citizens Day.

The seniors celebrated  with music, games and an indoor picnic, among many other activities.
