“The children of Jersey City need bold leaders that will break through the gridlock and fight for their futures. Sudhan Thomas is the right person at the right time for Jersey City,” Mukherji said in a statement.

“He is a parent and a business professional who has been active in the community, championing various initiatives over the last two decades. He represents a new generation of leadership that Jersey City desperately needs to address the challenges we face in urban public schools.”

Thomas, who said he was “delighted” to get Mukherji’s endorsement, also stressed bringing back full local control to Jersey City public schools in the same statement.

“The time has come to take control of our destiny and establish full local control the Jersey City school district. Now is the time to end the gridlock and initiate a progressive agenda in our schools,” he said.

“We are the greatest nation in the world and it troubles me that some Jersey City children attend school in trailer classrooms, without basic school supplies, infrastructure and proper support programs. Our parents and teachers who are the primary care givers and educators of our children need to be supported with comprehensive programs.”

Thomas added that his campaign has met with hundreds of constituents in recent months in order to develop a comprehensive platform.

Our campaign has immensely benefited by meeting several hundreds of our constituents over the last few months; our platform will continue to be shaped by listening to our constituents. We look forward to working closely with Assemblyman Mukherji to return greatness to the Jersey City public schools.”

While Mukherji is the first elected official to make a formal public endorsement for the Jersey City BOE, local Trustee Lorenzo Richardson, Ward C Councilman Rich Boggiano and Freeholder Bill O’Dea (D-2) all showed support for Gina Verdibello at her fundraiser last week.

Earlier today, the College Democrats of New Jersey also threw out an endorsement for Sudhan.
