“These arrests show the value of intelligence-driven policing and the importance of officers who are actively working to prevent further violence before it happens,” Mayor James Solomon said in a statement.
“This level of targeted enforcement, strong investigative follow-through, and coordination with law enforcement partners removes dangerous individuals from our streets and supports accountability for violent crime.”
The first arrest stems from a homicide in Syracuse, New York, on April 8th. During the incident, a 10-year-old boy also suffered a non-life-threatening graze wound.
Yesterday, Jersey City police officers Rohan Rassram and Bryan Jeffries made an arrest after receiving a Be On The Lookout (BOLO) regarding a homicide investigation out of Syracuse, New York.
At approximately 7:35 a.m., the officers located the suspect’s vehicle, a black 2017 Toyota Highlander with New York registration, in front of 127 Cator Ave.
The officers arrested the suspect, Shaquan Hyppolite, 27, of Syracuse, NY, and transported him to the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office.
Later that same day, the two officers made an arrest stemming from a May 6th shooting in the area of Rutgers and Chapel Avenues. Responding officers located a crime scene and two victims suffering from non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.
A 23-year-old female sustained two gunshot wounds to her legs, and a second 23-year-old victim sustained a gunshot wound to the foot.
Following a thorough investigation, the Jersey City PD’s Cease Fire Unit put out a BOLO for Shahid Jamison in connection with the shooting.
Then yesterday at approximately 5:22 p.m., Passram and Jeffries located Jamison in front of 288 Martin Luther King Drive with a group of individuals and placed him under arrest.
Jamison, 22 of Jersey City, is being charged with criminal attempt murder, conspiracy, murder, aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and certain persons not to possess a weapon.
“In just one shift, two of our officers made two important arrests yesterday. If you include the Pavonia shooting arrest from earlier this week, and we’re talking about three very dangerous criminals removed from our streets and behind bars,” added Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose.
“Our Cease Fire Unit continues to play a critical role in identifying, locating, and apprehending individuals wanted in connection with violent crimes.”
